Having established a steady base for The Bread & Roses Theatre now, with Summer Season 2015 we are venturing out and welcoming a variety of new projects in our programming, including Edinburgh Previews, Family Theatre Shows and the first ever Clapham Fringe Festival.
First of all, throughout July we’ll continue our Edinburgh Previews, such as Diary of a Dating Addict by Maddy Anholt on Sunday 5thJuly, Glitter and Tears by Serafina Cusack from Sunday 12th to Tuesday 14th July and many more continuing all the way into early August. Other highlights in July include a two-week-run of The Wonderful World of Dissocia by Anthony Neilson. Originally devised at LAMDA in 2002, before being produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2004 where it won the Critics' Award for Theatre in Scotland, Tumble Dry will present their production of the play Tuesday to Saturday from 21st July to 1st August.
August will also feature a two-week-run of Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca, running Tuesday to Saturday from 11th to 22ndAugust. Presented by Dreamcatcher Theatre this modern Spanish classic is a brand new translation by director Fay Lomas. Later in the month we will also welcome the first family theatre show at The Bread & Roses Theatre: CinderElla – And Her Smelly Old Slipper by Tessa Hart will run on Sundays and Mondays in-between August 23rd and 31st. Produced by Goblin Baby Theatre Co., and recommended for ages five and above, the play is a fun, exciting and modern retelling in which a girl's ultimate dream doesn’t necessarily need to be to marry some Prince.
We kick off September with a one-week-run of Shakespeare’s As You Like It, adapted by director Charmaine K Parkin, from Tuesday 1stto Saturday 5th September. Produced by Sisata, their interactive and engaging performance aims to make Shakespeare interesting and enjoyable to all ages. And last but most definitely not least, from 7th to 26th September we will be running the first ever Clapham Fringe, a new performing arts festival in South London (line-up to be announced shortly). Whilst still a young project and based around The Bread& Roses Theatre at the moment, it is an exciting new addition to the vibrant world of Clapham with the potential to expand in future years.
As you can see, here at The Bread & Roses Theatre we are thrilled to be heading into our first Summer Season and it will be a hot one indeed (theatrically, we do have an air-con to battle the actual heat)!
