Bread & Roses Equal Opportunities Policy

'They are consistently striving for equality, great diversity, and giving equal opportunities'
'an extremely ethical organisation'- London Pub Theatres Magazine
'a new wave of venues (....) – all on the sort of sweetheart deals of old.' - The Guardian

The Bread & Roses Theatre recognises that we live in a society where discrimination still operates to the disadvantage of many groups in society and believes that all persons should have equal rights to recognition of their human dignity, and to have equal opportunities to be educated, to work, receive services and to participate in society. The Bread & Roses Theatre is committed to the promotion of equal opportunities within the theatre, and affiliated projects, through the way we manage the venue and provide services to the community. In order to express this commitment, we develop, promote and maintain policies that will be conductive to the principles of fairness and equality.

The objective of these policies is that no person should suffer or experience less favourable treatment, discrimination or lack of opportunities on the grounds of gender, race, colour, nationality, ethnic origin, religious or philosophical beliefs, health status, HIV status, age, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, political beliefs or trade union membership, class, responsibility for dependents, physical attributes, ex-offender status as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, lack of formal qualifications where such qualifications are not formally required, or any other grounds which cannot be shown to be justifiable.

In the provision of services and in regards to employees, volunteers and all members of visiting companies, The Bread & Roses Theatre is committed to promoting equal opportunities for everyone.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 the theatre received the ICWP 50/50 Applause Award for producing at least 50% women playwrights. The Bread & Roses Theatre is the only London based venue to receive the award in all of these years as well as being a recipient every year of its existence.

On that not, here is our accessibility information:

We regret that du to the venue's constraints, our first floor theatre is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. There is no lift and there are about 15 steps leading up a slightly steep staircase. The first 3 steps are free standing, the next 5/6 have a wall on either side and the remaining ones have a handrail.

Depending on production it is usually possible to reserve aisle or front row seats or seats with extra legroom, if requested in advance.

Depending on production, certified service animals can also often be accommodated, if requested in advance.

For further details please do not hesitate to contact info@breadandrosestheatre.co.uk.

Ticket purchases are non refundable. Concession prices apply to students; under 18s; pensioners; those on disability and unemployment benefits; Equity, BECTU & SDUK members; Portico Places cardholders. As a young venue we are still upgrading and developing the space, any additional donations are much appreciated and will be used towards improving the theatre even further and keeping the venue going in the long-term.
