Founded in July 2012, The Bread & Roses Theatre Company (BRTC) first came about upon seeing the opportunity of using the large upstairs function room at The Bread and Roses Pub as a potential theatre venue. With a lot of hard work and time commitment that 'pipe dream' of an idea soon became a tangible and exciting project.
Since October 2012 the BRTC has been running The Platform, a new writing scratch night, giving writers, actors and directors a safe and constructive space in which to develop new pieces of theatre as well as an opportunity to showcase and develop their work.
In November 2014, after a major refurbishment of the space, the investments in lights, stages and further theate equipment, co-founders Rebecca Pryle and Tessa Hart, with the continued support of The Bread & Roses Pub, eventually went on to launch The Bread & Roses Theatre. The venue has since hosted a busy and diverse programme which is going from strength to strength.
Since 2015 the BRTC has also produced several full scale in-house productions, all of which have received 5 star reviews, as well as continuing to develop and showcase new work regularly.
The main responsibility of the BRTC nowadays is to continue developing The Bread & Roses Theatre as an innovative theatre venue as well as to produce quality in-house productions of new and contemporary theatre work, whilst providing fair and equal opportunities for creatives and theatre-makers from all backgrounds.
