It Tastes Like Home is a romantic comedy musical set in London exploring a love story between first generation Jamaica, Camilla, and Yi, of Chinese descent. As their tentative relationship evolves, can they balance their two worlds of family, culture and values?

This unique and feel-good multicultural musical explores what ‘home’ looks like when you come from another place and whether two cultures can ever really be in harmony when it comes to beliefs, identity and most importantly food.

With book and lyrics by Lorna Wells and music by Eudora Yutong Qiao, It Tastes Like Home premiered at The Bread & Roses Theatre in London in 2018.

    About the playwright:
Lorna studied Singing and Performance at Access to Music, in Bristol. Although training as nurse, Lorna also had a lifelong desire to become a singer- songwriter. Lorna gained an advanced Diploma in Popular Music practice, after three years at the college. This was the culmination of a number of years singing, performing and song-writing. Lorna then went on to create a business in partnership with one of the students she met on the course. The business was called, “DanceSing Workshops”. This involved devising and creating mini-musicals for children to perform in, within various settings. At the same time Lorna was also a singer- songwriter in various bands and Jazz ensembles. Lorna first developed a passion for story telling as a child, when she would create stories to entertain her younger brothers, a tradition she carried on with her own children. It was a light-bulb moment combined with a chance find, which led her to a Goldsmiths MA in Musical Theatre. She was excited to realise there was an MA which combined her zeal for both music and writing. Despite having to withdraw from the course due to continuing ill health, Lorna has managed to complete the piece ‘It Tastes Like Home’.
