Miss Julie (2015)
★★★★★ "[Tessa] Hart’s Miss Julie is a lesson in economic storytelling. Focusing on Christine (Grace Dunne), John (Adam Alexander) and Miss Julie (Rebecca Pryle) this menage a trois is a feast for the eyes." - 5 stars, femalearts ★★★★★ one of the best plays I have attended in London. I left satisfied with Black Bird playing on repeat in my head. - 5 stars, Remotegoat The Bread and Roses stages the claustrophobic three-hander as bare bones theatre (...) The Beatles’ Blackbird as a repeated motif, adding brooding atmosphere. - Londonist |
in May 2015, as election fever hits most theatre venues across Britain, it is this modern classic by August Strindberg, redressed for contemporary audiences, which forms the first in-house production of The Bread and Roses Theatre in Clapham. Launched in November 2014, here is a wonderful new venture and addition to London’s pub theatre circuit: led by Artistic Director Tessa Hart, this kind of venue proves what can be accomplished in the city’s smaller performance spaces, and in defiance of contested arts funding. - 17Percent |
The PlATFORM (2012-2015)
★★★★ It was one of the best written, directed, acted and structured projects of this sort that I have seen to date. (...) With this already being the fourth show, my final verdict would be that this particular new writing night is one to watch and keep on watching! |
The Platform – A Page to Stage Workshop for New Writing presented by the Bread and Roses Theatre Company is rapidly growing as one of the strongest short work platforms in London. They are consistent in both quantity and quality and with this being the fourth successful one it looks set to continue for a good while. |
Writer Testimonials
"I was delighted to be involved in The Platform showcase for the Bread & Roses Theatre Company, it's a fantastic opportunity for writers to get their work seen in front of an encouraging and supportive audience. Tessa Hart's direction and casting of my play, Cold Calling, was absolutely perfect, I couldn't have asked for more. I wish them all the best for the future." "I just want to say thank you again for putting on the play, it has truly been one of the best experiences I've ever had and has made me hungry for more!" |
"Due to my other commitments I just handed my short play Gotcha over to the company under Chloe Mashiter's direction and left them to get on with it. One of the best decisions I have ever made - Chloe and the cast produced a powerful piece of drama which was faithful and true to my script." "BRTC delivered a full house of appreciative theatre goers and some top quality performances. Both meant my piece got a really good reaction on the night." |
