THE OUTCAST FESTIVAL was developed out of an interest in presenting work focused on the forgotten, lost, and marginalised groups of our society. Directed by MFA Theatre Directing candidates at East 15 Acting School, these three plays: IN THE CONTINUUM, BEASTS, and THE WEED DREAMS & SUSTAINED explore the ways we act when we’re in the depths of loneliness, how we move forward when we feel like we can’t go on any longer, and the moments when we know that tomorrow, our lives will look dramatically different than they do today.

IN THE CONTINUUM
by DANAI GURIRA & NIKKOLE SALTER
directed by NICK LEOS

An international award winning hit, In the Continuum puts a human face on the devastating impact of AIDS in Africa and America through the lives of two unforgettably courageous women. Living worlds apart, one in South Central LA and the other in Harare, Zimbabwe, each experience a kaleidoscopic weekend of life changing revelations in this surprisingly comic story of parallel denials and self-discoveries.

Running Time: 1 hour 20 minutes. - 13+. Strong language, sexual themes.

BEASTS
by JUAN RADRIGÁN
translated by CATHERINE BOYLE
directed by FRANCISCA OLIVARES

Set in the country’s remote Chilean Andean foothills, Juan Radrigán’s Beasts is based on the true story of three sisters who were found tied together at the waist and hung from a rock. At first it was not clear if they had been executed for helping fugitives from the military regime or whether this was a ritual suicide.

Running Time: 1 hour 15 minutes - Mention of suicide.

THE WEED DREAMS & SUSTAINED
by ERIC KAISER
directed by KALYL KADRI

A double bill from writer Eric Kaiser.

In ‘The Weed Dreams’, the audience gathers to praise the newly appointed Great Leader at his inauguration ceremony. You’re free to stop clapping whenever you like, but everybody knows what happens to those that stop first.

In ‘Sustained’, we invite you to become a voyeur. A man and a woman wake up on a kitchen table. They don’t know each other, or themselves. How selective is your memory when you’re self-destructing?

Total running time: 45 minutes - Adult themes, sex, violence.
