![]() Everyman has been summoned by Death to meet his maker - and he doesn't want to go. This interactive performance brings his struggle directly to the audience, asking them to become part of the story and follow in his footsteps. Will you help Everyman make his peace?
Previous audiences have and said: “A one man tour de force... gripped from start to finish... a mix of pathos and humour all done with a light touch... a real privilege and honour being there... having volunteered, with no acting experience whatsoever, was guided expertly throughout by Robert... an hour very well spent... I’ve come to see it again! What more do I need to say? In awe of the intensity!” Everyman was originally written in the late 15th Century as a morality play – it has been adapted by award-winning playwright and performer Robert Crighton as a piece of interactive theatre. The audience is invited by Robert to help make the story happen – without them the story cannot be told – and so turning the play into a piece of living theatre, one that can be shared in terms of the early 21st Century. The Summoning of Everyman Robert Crighton - Adapter and Performer Robert Crighton is a multi-award winning playwright and performer, specialising in stories and monologues, though he has written and produced dozens of full scale plays, as well as acting in many more. He set up his theatre company Milk Bottle Productions in 2000. He is the only entrant in the history of the Lost One-Act Festival to win three awards in successive years. "All hopeful recipients of this man's prodigious talent should form an orderly queue..." Crighton’s keen insights and sharp analytical theories are fascinating, and his energetic performance captivating… This is stand-up at its finest; Crighton’s comic timing and keen observations on the ridiculous minutiae of the human animal are spot on… A brilliantly original and entertaining performance. ★★★★★ (www.londontheatre1.com) Crighton as Ashborn talks the audience through his various ridiculous authorship theories with energy and eccentric humour, evoking plenty of laughs. The script follows a natural rhythm of discovery, disappointment and eventual confession; it’s a story carefully crafted with intuition and skill… (theplaysthethinguk.com) … a unique piece of theatre! ... provoked laughter from the audience within seconds, continuing at this comedic pace throughout… Crighton himself is a superb actor with a strong stage presence, confident at delivering comedy… he has a unique viewpoint on the infamous playwright, excellent performance skills and some real side-splitting comedy. (westendwilma.com) … if you like intelligent, if rather wacky, comedy I would recommend it. (Remotegoat) … “Undead Bard” is a refreshing and inventive exploration of the afterlife of William Shakespeare… Crighton’s digression on the 1980’s children’s show ‘Thundercats’ as a study in Post-Colonialism is both hilarious and pointed. Crighton gives a masterful and energetic performance as Ashborn... It’s surreal and confrontational, played with an intensity that was uncomfortable at times but compelling.
