Have you written a play and need a keen outside eye to look it over? Submitted a script to a competition but it didn’t get selected? Or maybe you’re working on a first draft and just aren’t sure if the dialogue is working. Allow us to introduce our literary associate and resident Script Doctor Seb, who is excited to offer a detailed dramaturgical service to writers in need, whatever stage your play is at! We’ll hand over to Seb to explain how it works.
Hello, Seb here! So, what’s involved in my Script Doctor service? Quite a bit actually. I will read your play and go through it with a fine-toothed comb, annotating the script with notes on my overall impressions, ideas for cuts, passages that need reworking and plenty more besides – no stone will be left unturned! I do this while reading the script for the first time to give you an idea of what the play’s journey might look like for audiences or script readers.
As well as the fully annotated script, I will present you with a separate document offering a detailed breakdown of where the play shines, what needs reworking and my interpretation of your story/characters. If there are specific passages or points of your script you want me to prioritise my focus on, just let me know beforehand and I will make sure to give you the feedback you need! For all lengths of play, I will aim to have everything back to you within a turnaround of 10 working days (this may be longer during busy periods, but I will always let you know beforehand.)
I am happy to accept screenplays also but will not be able to offer much guidance on the technical side!
Short plays and above will also include a 20-minute follow-up phone or video call with me which you can use for additional questions, clarification on notes I’ve given or simply to chat more about ideas for the script.
PRICES
5 MINUTE PLAYS / MONOLOGUES (up to 1000 words): £30
SHORT PLAYS (1000 - 3500 words): £45
SHORT FULL-LENGTHS (3500 – 7000 words): £70
FULL-LENGTH PLAYS (7000 – 14000 words): £95

Any questions, please email me at [email protected]
Thanks for your time and I look forward to working through your play with you!
