The Bread & Roses Emerging Director & Producer

Picture
Dedicated to nourishing new off-stage talent, the Bread and Roses Theatre runs a yearly scheme which offers guidance and opportunity for an emerging director and producer.

The two Emergie Programs offer one director and one producer in the early stages of their development and career a one year attachment to the theatre. During this year they will learn about and gain practical experience in directing/producing of performances from scratch nights to full-scale productions, as well as gaining insights into the running of a venue overall.  In the end they will also be able to receive marketing, rehearsal and performance space support for the realisation of their own small collaborative project (may carry on into the following year).

Whilst the placement is currently voluntary, it has been possible to offer fees/shares attached to specific projects in the past. However, we encourage everyone interested to apply as we will not be requiring attendance for set hours but are rather looking for the best and most suitable candidates and will then find a way to make it work. There is no full-time requirement but just involvement in several projects as much as the candidates' availability allows.

Due to the Covid-19 closures, the 2020 placements we're exceptionally extended over a two year period. Submissions for The Bread & Roses Theatre Emerging Director & Producer Programs are now open!

EMERGING PRODUCER
The selected candidate will become an Associate Emerging Producer at The Bread & Roses Theatre for the year 2022, which will include the following opportunities:
  • Assistant Producer on our in-house production (March/April 2022)
  • Associate Producer of our regular in-house new writing night The Platform (usually twice a year)
  • Opportunity to learn about the running of a fringe theatre, producing clapham fringe festival and any other aspects of fringe theatre that would be of interest, including developing new contacts and networks.
  • Marketing, rehearsal & venue support for their own  small production, realised in collaboration with the Emerging Director (may carry on into 2023)

EMERGING DIRECTOR
The selected candidate will become an Associate Emerging Director at The Bread & Roses Theatre for the year 2022, which will include the following opportunities:
  • Assistant Director on our in-house production of a winning play of the Bread & Roses Playwriting Award (March/April 2022)
  • Director of at least two short plays for our regular in-house new writing night The Platform
  • Opportunity to develop new contacts and networks and gain insights into running a fringe theatre, including developing any other skills that may be of interest.
  • Marketing, rehearsal & venue support for their own  'final project', realised

We are seeking a Producer and a Director in the very early stages of their career interested in further developing their skills, gaining insights into making productions and running a theatre, as well as making new connections and working in a diverse and forward-thinking environment. As above, there are no full time commitments and this is a voluntary opportunity working around the Emerging Artists availability.

We would love to hear from Emerging Artists of all ages and backgrounds, including recent graduates, people who may be interested in a career change or artists practising different disciplines. We are especially keen to hear from artists from the global majority and/or working class and LGBTQ+ creatives.

To apply please email a CV and cover letter (no more than 500 words) explaining a little about yourself and what you would gain from the program to
submissions@breadandrosestheatre.co.uk with 'Emerging Producer 2022' or 'Emerging Director 2022' in the subject line.
Applications close 5th January 2022 at midnight. Interviews will be held mid - late January 2022.
